INDUSTRY GROWTH FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
At RDA Hunter’s 2019 Next Generation is Now Conference , a pertinent conversation led by representatives of the OECD and Siemens focused on the skills and workforce requirements needed to transition from industry now – be that Industry 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0 – to Industry 4.0. They helped us understand the integration of cyber-physical systems into industry and its impact on the way we work. We were introduced to the adjustments occurring in learning eco-systems and urged to develop strategies to build future-orientated skills.
The regional discussion that is ensuing is energising and inspiring and has seen some new and exciting collaborative projects develop.
But, let’s take a step back – do we really know what Industry 4.0 is and how the Hunter region is faring in achieving it? Which industries are striving for it, which have already achieved it and how have they done it? Do we have the right skills?
Has there been a measurable shift towards it across all of the Hunter’s sectors of competitive strength? If not, why not and what does it mean for the region’s future if we don’t strengthen our economy by driving industry growth?
And what about innovation – is it still critical for industry growth? Do we have the knowledge we need locally to embark on the next industrial revolution – to what extent is cross-border collaboration necessary to tap expertise and experience?
RDA Hunter’s 2020 Regional Development Summit will draw on the knowledge of well-credentialled commentators, industry experts, government and business representatives to examine the Hunter’s industrial landscape. We’ll have a keynote on macro trends that will impact economic growth. We’ll hear about the Australian approach to industry growth and Hunter industry will help us understand how our sectors of competitive strength are transitioning for the future.
