The NSW Minerals Council (NSWMC) and RDA Hunter are offering 15 additional high schools in the Hunter region the opportunity to be part of PRIME (Pathways to Resource Industry and Mining Employment) in 2021.   This opportunity builds on the successful rollout of PRIME in 20 high schools in 2020.  A FREE initiative aimed at building the skills and knowledge needed by the Hunter Region’s future mining workforce.

REGISTER YOUR SCHOOL FOR PRIME IN 2021

PRIME includes mining specific lesson content for delivery in Year 10, scenario-based learning activities and real-world problem solving in Hunter region secondary schools.

The school’s FREE educational package for each participating school consists of:

  • 2 options for delivery of the program to Year 10 students:
    • USB – Contains all of the content as outlined below for delivery at your own discretion
    • LMS – CANVAS Course Access – The entire program has been created for delivery via LMS CANVAS. You will receive full access and individual PL to setup you and your students if required. If you already have a CANVAS account with your school, you will be able to download the course via CANVAS Commons in February 2021. All activities are set up to be graded automatically for your grade book if required for reporting.
  • Updated for the PRIME Program 2021 – Series of lessons in relation to the ‘Lifecycle of a Mine’ which includes:
    • Teacher Workbook – all answers included
    • Student Workbook – students complete a series of lessons
    • Program Outline
    • Program Register
    • Outcomes for Science, Work Ed and Geography – Stage 5
    • All resources required for the delivery of the program – embedded in a sequential  PPT for easy delivery.
  • 2 x Oculus Quest VR Goggles– access to two programs – Coal Awareness and Minerals Awareness – yours to keep.
  • Real-world industry challenges for resolution by student teams
  • Presentation of selected Projects from each school to combined industry/education PRIME Exhibition.
  • 2 Teacher Professional Development sessions – 2 x non-registered My@PL hours
  • 2 Surveys – Pre and post data collection
  • Industry engagement

This program and all associated resources will be available to you to use in any future units at your school.
