NEWCASTLE businessman Michael Slater and Hunter Valley Coal Chain Coordinator chief executive Kirsten Molloy have taken out the top two categories in the Hunter Business Chamber’s annual awards event.

Mr Slater, chairman of the Newcastle Permanent and chair of Regional Development Australia’s Hunter chapter, was named Business Leader of the Year at the gala event, which the chamber declared the biggest ceremony it had ever hosted. 

More than 530 business people from across the region attended the event, which was sponsored by the University of Newcastle and held at NEX, Wests City

Acting Chamber CEO Anita Hugo said Mr Slater was a shining example of the calibre of leaders who operated in the the Hunter business community.

“The Hunter is home to many individuals and organisations that represent the wider diversity and success of our region,” she said. 

“They continue to demonstrate the high standard of ability and innovation that the Hunter has become well known for.”

“Michael’s various roles prove him to be a significant contributor to the Hunter business community and a leader in the broader financial industry, setting an example of continuous improvement, robust governance and corporate philanthropy to businesses of all sizes.”

In presenting the President’s Award to Kirsten Molloy, President Ross Taggart commented on her long term commitment to the Hunter and beyond.
