The Turnbull Government has today introduced the Innovation and Science Australia Bill to parliament – cementing innovation and science at the heart of our long-term plan to secure Australia’s future economic prosperity.

The bill establishes in legislation Innovation and Science Australia – the organisation charged with helping the Government complete the three waves of the National Innovation and Science Agenda.

Innovation and Science Australia will also work across government, providing guidance around the $10.1 billion investment in 2016/17 in innovation, science and research.

It will also directly engage international, business and community sectors to improve the overall performance of the national innovation and science system.

Chaired by Bill Ferris, with Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel as Deputy Chair, the board includes some of the best minds in the country, with a proven track record in areas of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Building our strength in science allows us to capture greater opportunities for our people.

And innovation is the driving force for boosting Australia’s productivity, which will keep businesses competitive and maintain our high standard of living.

Innovation matters to all Australians because it is about job creation. It is about new and improved opportunities to do business, and it underpins a healthy economy.
