At the invitation of the German Ambassador to Australia, Dr Christoph Muller, RDA Hunter CEO, Todd Williams recently attended the German Australian Science Circle event in Canberra where the implications of energy transition were discussed.

Professor Andreas Loschel delivered the keynote address, “Germany’s energy transition and implications for Australia”. Professor Loschel, Director of the Centre of Applied Economic Research at the University of Munster, Germany, is undertaking lectures in Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to discuss the costs the energy transition may have for society and the economy.

Germany is working towards a reliable, economically viable and environmentally sound energy supply with a goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, increase renewable energies, and reduce total energy consumption. Achieving these goals could have significant economic and social costs and pose challenges for policy design and implementation. Many of these issues are relevant to Australia and the Hunter.
