The Newcastle and Hunter regional economy represents the second largest economy in New South Wales and is at the forefront of regional development in the state. It is forecast the Hunter economy will increase its output by 75% to around $64.8 billion by 2036.

The region is well placed to build on its existing economic foundations and capitalise on new and emerging opportunities in both domestic and Asian markets. This comes with the recognition that growth will be achieved through investment in infrastructure and innovation that will support existing industries and create new industries, jobs and investment opportunities.

CEDA’s 9th Annual Newcastle and Hunter Region Economic Development Forum will examine critical issues impacting on the local economy, including:
>Critical infrastructure needs to drive regional productivity;
>Opportunities for business growth through innovation and access to export markets;
>Investment in skills and training to enhance regional employment;
>The future energy mix and opportunities for local industry; and
>Urban redevelopment of the Newcastle CBD to meet the needs of the city to 2030.

Leaders from across industry, tertiary education institutions, and government, will examine regional priorities towards growing the Newcastle and Hunter regional economy.
