Doing Business with Government
Get Your Business Procurement Ready for 2014

The Business Centre in conjunction with NSW Procurement & Small Biz Connect will be running a 3 hour workshop on “Doing Business with Government – Get Your Business Procurement Ready” on Tuesday 15th July from 6pm -9pm at East Maitland Bowling Club, East Maitland.

The NSW Government Procurement: Small and Medium Enterprises Policy Framework improves access by small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to government goods and services procurement by opening up opportunities according to Narelle McClelland, General Manager, The Business Centre. The policy supports competition and reduces the administrative burden on SMEs, Narelle said, with the framework aiming to maximise opportunities for SME participation in NSW Government procurement.

Narelle McClelland said that increasing direct opportunities for SMEs to gain Government business  mechanisms include more flexible supplier panels and prequalification schemes, and Government exemptions to purchase goods and services directly from SMEs, regardless of some existing Government contracts which all form part of the new Small & Medium Enterprise Policy Framework.

The 3 hour workshop will focus on:-

• How Government purchases,  requirements for tenders e.g. reporting and insurance
• Supplier experience with Government – Is this your businesses first time tendering or are you a regular supplier?
• Barriers to supplying to NSW Government – perceived/actual barriers working with government
• What support do suppliers require to be procure ready?
• Where to from here?

The workshop will also provide an overview of how the NSW Government SME Policy Framework is providing greater accessibility for SMEs to Government procurement opportunities, such as simpler contracts and contracting processes, SME opportunity statements and SME participation plans. Removing or minimising, where possible, barriers to Government procurement opportunities.

Cost of the workshop is $40 + booking fee which includes supper. Interested businesses can register by contacting The Business Centre on 4925 7700 or email info@businesscentre.com.au
