RDA Hunter’s Hunter Economic Infrastructure Plan identifies 14 catalytic economic infrastructure priorities that reduce travel times, improve productivity, and streamline connectivity with the Port of Newcastle, Newcastle Airport and national highway system.

The upgrade of the Golden Highway to enable the passage of super B double trucks was key among these projects as it improves access to the Port of Newcastle which will increase export capacity and drive regional economic sustainability as well as streamline the delivery of freight.

“Our HEIP articulates business cases for economic infrastructure projects like the upgrade of the Golden Highway that will resolve inefficiencies and improve Hunter road infrastructure to link competitive international gateways,” said RDA Hunter CEO, Todd Williams

“We are very pleased that we have been successful in advocating for efficient and productive infrastructure for the Hunter. To date, Federal and State governments have committed $856 million to all of the projects in the Hunter we identified” continued Mr Williams.

A road bypass of Quirindi in the Liverpool Plains Shire Council is the only priority in the HEIP that has not yet received funding support.
