Observers, politicians and citizens within and beyond the European Union (EU) were shocked and puzzled by the outcome of the British referendum on its membership of the EU. There was an immediate impact on financial markets, as widespread uncertainty unfolded about the implications and subsequent actions.

RDA Hunter is hosting an event featuring Professor Bruce Wilson, Director of the European Union Centre at RMIT University. Professor Wilson will explore the complexity of the challenges to be addressed arising from Brexit, and its the implications.

According to Professor Wilson, it is a key time for Australia, as the EU-Australia relationship has developed significantly in recent years. A treaty-level Framework Agreement has been negotiated; the EU-Australia Leadership Forum, involving a series of high-level dialogues, has also just been announced; the EU and Australia are in the early stages of negotiation of a Free Trade Agreement; and the RDA Hunter has drawn on European experience with Smart Specialisation. Will Brexit affect our new-found bond with the European Union?
