PwC: Unlocking our children’s potential – 2015 Lunch

At PwC we care about our children and our community.  We believe improving Australia’s capabilities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) is an essential foundation for a vibrant and prosperous economy. With 400,000 young Australians neither in study or work, and unemployment currently above 6% arguably we do not so much have a participation problem as a failure to match skills and training with current and future employment demand.  Only 16% of Australians currently graduate from STEM degrees, while 75% of the fastest growing occupations will require STEM skills in the future.  This is something corporate Australia needs to play a critical role in. This is where our future recruits will come from as our businesses are rapidly transformed by the global megatrends: technology, urbanisation, climate change, resource scarcity and demographic change. (Luke Sayers, PwC CEO)

Since 2010 the ME Program has focussed on ensuring high school students in the Hunter select subjects that encourage the study of tertiary engineering and technology courses – and has had significant outcomes.  Students from ME Program high schools are 3 times more likely to select engineering than the NSW average. Building on the ME Program’s success, it is proposed to extend the program into primary schools as (Mini) ME Program.  Our 2015 event will support this initiative.   Please refer to the attached flyer if you would like more information.

Everyone attending will go into the draw to win a 3D printer to donate to a Hunter public school (K-6) of their choice!

We would be delighted if you can join us at lunch and help build children of the Hunter better futures.
