A View to the Future

BACKGROUND

Since 2010, RDA Hunter has raised the Hunter’s profile nationally and internationally to help ensure an innovative and prosperous future for the region. We have devised and implemented catalytic initiatives that have successfully driven economic growth by identifying and communicating regional priorities.

We have worked to advance innovation, attract investment and improve infrastructure and we’ve lobbied governments to invest in the region’s future. Some of our most important and effective projects include:

• Hunter Economic Infrastructure Plan (HEIP) – identifies 13 Hunter based economic infrastructure priorities that have attracted $860 million in government funding for the region;

• Smart Specialisation Strategy for the Hunter Region (S3) – a masterplan for innovation-driven growth for the Hunter’s future which is the first developed in Australia and which was launched by the Prime Minister in March 2016;

• Hunter Innovation Scorecards (2013 and 2014) – measure the Hunter’s innovative capability and benchmark the region against the EU’s 190 regions;

• ME Program – put the Hunter on the national map for developing industry school partnerships which STEM-skill the future workforce and creating employability pathways

On December 15, RDA Hunter will host an end of year event to reflect on the success of the past six years and look forward to the future.

Our guest speakers will discuss the impact of innovation, international collaboration and the exchange of knowledge on a region’s global competitiveness.
