The Hon John Barilaro MP, NSW Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Skills and Minister for Small Business visited the Hunter on Friday 22nd July to see the competitive strengths the Hunter, and in particular Gloucester, holds in advanced manufacturing and agri-business.

Minister Barilaro, was in Gloucester at the invitation of Regional Development Australia (RDA) Hunter, to deliver a keynote address about skills, technology and regional competitiveness at RDA Hunter’s Smart Specialisation event, Regional Competitive Advantage.

During the event, Leveltec’s innovative engineering operation, Drifta’s rapidly expanding niche manufacturing business, Drury Farm’s high-tech robotic dairy and Robotic Systems cutting edge drone technology that has applications in the agri-business sector were all highlighted to the audience of 60 business and community representatives.

“I’m pleased to see the NSW Government is supporting the RDA Hunter who have developed a Smart Specialisation Strategy for the Hunter region. The strategy will prioritise the region’s strength, encourage innovation, promote entrepreneurship and identify areas of potential employment growth,” Mr Barilaro said.

“RDA Hunter’s Smart Specialisation is about regional competitive advantage. Its a strategy for innovation driven, focused economic growth for the Hunter’s future. It identifies the region’s competitive strengths and develops strategies to leverage these capabilities,” said RDA Hunter CEO, Todd Williams.

“We are very pleased to showcase Gloucester’s depth of skill and competitive strength in advanced manufacturing and agri-business to Minister Barilaro as part of our initiative.” continued Mr Williams.
