RDA Hunter has identified innovation, investment and infrastructure as essential strategic areas for the economic development of the region.
The Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) for the Hunter Region is RDA Hunter’s initiative that aims to boost regional competitiveness for economic growth and job creation. The S3 framework helps define the Hunter’s competitive advantages and establish priorities for investment and research that maximise the distinctiveness of the region through innovation and collaboration.
In December 2015, RDA Hunter held a Summit to inform our Smart Specialisation process. It was attended by over 150 business, education, community and government representatives from across the region. The Summit identified seven areas of strengths and potential growth that will be important for the Hunter’s future. These are:
• Advanced Manufacturing;
• Creative Industries;
• Defence;
• Food and Agribusiness;
• Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals;
• Mining Equipment, Technology and Services;
• Oil, Gas and Energy Resources.
RDA Hunter is working to build a business case in each of these seven areas which will be highlighted in future updates.
