Strengthened by the recent announcement of an $11.7 million investment by the State Government into a Williamtown Defence – Aviation – Technology precinct, the outlook for jobs in the Hunter’s aerospace sector looks promising (https://www.theherald.com.au/story/5639868/117m-to-start-williamtown-technology-aviation-defence-development/).

This combines with the announcement by the University of Newcastle to offer a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering in 2019 (https://www.newcastle.edu.au/newsroom/featured-news/jobs-of-the-future-to-stem-from-new-aerospace-and-renewable-energy-degrees), the region’s students now have an educational pathway to follow to an Aerospace career right here in the Hunter:

Places for the Cert II in Aeroskills-Mechanical (MEA20415) will again be offered in the Hunter region at proposed delivery sites:

– Singleton HS
– Hunter River HS
– Lake Macquarie HS
– All Saints St Mary’s, Maitland
– Callaghan College, Jesmond

This course is a an excellent opportunity for students to gain a start in the aerospace sector.  RDA Hunter will also assist students and schools by facilitating additional work placements and site tours with industry partners.

The 2018 cohort consisted of 35 students from 35 schools – the majority of which are half way to completing their program, have completed a work placement with an industry partner and have attended the RDA Hunter Aerospace Careers Days in Williamtown.
