Hunter ME Program High School, Mount View High, Maitland Grossmann High and Merewether High qualified this week to represent NSW at the National Finals of F1 in Schools which will be held at Penrith in March next year.

F1 in Schools is the World’s Largest Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Competition. It involves over nine million students from 17,000 schools in 31 nations.

The patron is Formula1™ supremo Bernie Ecclestone along with the Formula1™ teams who are co-patrons. Each year the program engages more than 40,000 high school students in Australia and delivers industry-standard technology into schools which is made available to a further 300,000 students outside the program

Teams competing in the F1 in schools competition must design and make their own unique race car using state of the art design and computer controlled machining technologies. The aim of the event is to give students a taste of the latest in manufacturing techniques.

“F1 in Schools is a key partner activity for the ME Program. It’s a hands-on and fun way to apply science, technology, engineering and maths. We are delighted that our ME Program schools performed so well and were selected to represent the State at yet another national STEM competition.” said Dr Scott Sleap, ME Program Director at RDA Hunter

“Coming off the back of ME Program partner school, St Peters Maitland, winning the National Finals of the Science and Engineering Challenge last week, the Hunter is truly demonstrating its dominance as a leader in STEM education.” continued Dr Sleap.
