RDA Hunter welcomes the State and Federal government’s announcement of funding for the duplication of Tourle Street Bridge & Cormorant Road and upgrade of Scone level rail crossing today. NSW Minister for Roads and Ports, The Hon Duncan Gay MLC announced the funding which will match federal government to allow these projects to proceed.

“Today the Federal Government has secured and budgeted $51.9 million for the Tourle Street duplication, which will be matched by the NSW Government dollar-for-dollar with 50 per cent by the Commonwealth and 50 per cent by the state. In Scone on the New England Highway, $45 million from the Federal Coalition to build a level crossing long awaited by local communities will address congestion, improve road safety and reduce freight costs.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development The Hon Warren Truss MP and Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Mr Jamie Briggs MP said “Today’s announcement is another clear example of the Coalition’s commitment to infrastructure and the priority we place on it as part of our plan to drive strong economic benefits for our major cities and regional areas.”

“RDA Hunter welcomes the announcement of matched funding for these projects which will have local, state and national benefits. These projects are the first step to linking the key economic drivers of the Hunter to the national highway system,” said RDA Hunter CEO Todd Williams.

“RDA Hunter has been working with stakeholders and all levels of government for more than three years to have key regional infrastructure projects recognised as national priorities and ultimately funded by state and federal governments,” said Mr Williams.

“RDA Hunter identified the need and has advocated for a number of years for the urgent duplication of Tourle Street Bridge and Cormorant Road; recognising it as a project of national significance which connects Newcastle Port and Airport to the national highway system as part of a broader regional infrastructure agenda,” continued Mr Williams.
