RDA Hunter Welcomes Benefits of the Inland Rail Project
According to CEO, Todd Williams, Inland Rail is an important economic infrastructure project that will transform the transport of commodities and maximise the Port of Newcastle
Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) says that the Inland Rail Project will deliver a safe, sustainable solution to Australia’s freight challenge and transform the way freight will be moved around the country.
The 1700km freight rail line will complete the spine of the national freight rail network, providing a road competitive service that will see freight delivered from Melbourne to Brisbane, via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, in less than 24 hours.
Inland Rail is among the most significant infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Australia. It is expected that the $10B project will generate sufficient work to create 16,000 new jobs at the peak of construction, and an average of 700 additional jobs per year over the entire period.
“As an important driver of economic growth, infrastructure is one of RDA Hunter’s three key areas of focus. The Inland Rail project is the largest infrastructure project to be implemented in Australia recently. It will change the way commodities are transported and provide significant national benefits including reduced congestion and supply chain costs and increased job opportunities,” said RDA Hunter CEO, Todd Williams.
“The Project will also positively impact the Hunter’s economy, linking our existing rail infrastructure to the national system. This will help maximise access through the Port of Newcastle and grow international markets.” continued Mr Williams.
