The Hunter will benefit from the Australian government’s recent announcement that $28.5 million will be pumped into local NSW bridges to improve the state’s road network.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, The Hon. Warren Truss MP said, “The Bridges Renewal Programme is designed to bolster productivity of Australia’s local bridges, to better serve communities and drive greater efficiency in road freight and traffic movement.

By upgrading these bridges from, for example, by replacing one-lane timber bridges with two-lane concrete bridges, residents will enjoy better, safer and more reliable road access. Freight from farms and local factories will be able to pass safely along quicker routes with greatly improve productivity.

“It’s a classic win-win situation. That’s why the Coalition Government identified local bridge upgrades and repairs as a national priority.”

Upper Hunter Shire Starrs crossing on Timor-Crawney Rd. Timor 60kms north of Scone – one lane concrete bridge $340k for $710k project

Dungog Shire Council Woederns Rd Bridge, near Clarence Town, 25kms south of Dungog – build one span dual lane concrete bridge $325,000 for $650,000 project

Newcastle City Council Cottage Creek Bridge, Hunter St Newcastle – replace with new bridge: $990,000 for $1.98m project
