RDA Hunter this week hosted The Hon John Barilaro MP, Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Skills and Minister for Small Business.

Minister Barilaro visited the Hunter to see first-hand the outstanding results RDA Hunter’s ME Program is delivering in its partner schools and defence and advanced manufacturing industries. The Minister also addressed the ME Program Stakeholder and Industry Update which was held at Hunter TAFE..

The ME Program is RDA Hunter’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) focused, skills and workforce development program. It partners 42 secondary schools in the Hunter with 28 industry partners.

“The ME Program engages young people in STEM to help qualify them for the jobs of the future,” said RDA Hunter CEO, Todd Williams.

“Our Program links industry with schools in order to make curriculum more interesting and workplace-relevant and provides industry with qualified, motivated and career aware candidates.” continued Mr Williams.

“The ME Program has a strong track record of connecting students with STEM skills, giving more people access to training as part of the NSW Government’s broader commitment to develop a highly skilled workforce ready to take on the future, under Smart & Skilled,” Mr Barilaro said.

During his visit, the Minister also met teachers and students at ME partner school, Maitland Grossmann High School (MGHS), which was recently named a state government STEM Action School. MGHS is achieving outstanding results in increasing the uptake of STEM subjects by students in year’s nine to twelve.

Minister Barilaro visited founding ME Program industry partner BAE Systems Australia at Williamtown. BAE Systems Australia highlighted their skills development program which includes its ME Program school students.
