The Australian Government today launched its “the Workforce Behind the Defence Force” campaign nationally.

The campaign promotes the Government’s initiatives to modernise Australia’s defence capability and secure Australia while strengthening the defence industry and creating Australian jobs.

The Government has undertaken five initiatives to build a strong and capable defence industry workforce ready to deliver modernised defence capabilities.

These include:
1. The Industry Skilling and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Strategy
2. The Naval Shipbuilding College
3. The Defence Engineering Internship Program
4. The Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC)
5. The School Pathways Programs (SPP)

RDA Hunter is very proud to have delivered one of only three Schools Pathways Programs across Australia for the Department of Defence known in the Hunter region as the ME Program.

We have been working to STEM skill and prepare Hunter students for the Defence and defence industry jobs of tomorrow since 2009. The ME Program has increased the pool of young people ready to move from school into further education, apprenticeships, internships, scholarships and part-time work/study combinations in the Hunter’s defence industry.

Over the next decade and beyond, the demand will increase for Australian workers with trade, technical and science and technology skills to build and maintain fleets of new ships, submarines, armoured vehicles, infrastructure and facilities, and contribute to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, cyber and other electronic and information based capabilities. Design, construction, integration, sustainment, services and support capabilities will all be critical and the Hunter is prepared with a pipeline of young people ready and motivated.
